Grade 2 Kayak Certificate

This course is designed to train and qualify you for competitive events such the Coast to Coast and Gold Rush.

The following skills and knowledge will be taught and assessed during a 2 day course:

• Personal kayaking and safety equipment
• River dynamics at grade 2 level
• Hazards associated with kayaking
• Moving Water Skills
  • Forward paddling
  • Forward and reverse sweep strokes
  • Low brace
  • Ferry gliding
  • Break in & out of eddies
  • Identifying safe lines and manoeuvring down grade 2 rapids

• Rescue skills
  • Self rescue
  • Use of throw bags
  • Deep water rescue

Thursday 22^nd July 7-9pm Introduction to course

Thursday 5^th August 7-9pm Pool Session

Thursday 12 August 7-9pm Pool Session

Saturday 15 August 9am – 5pm Waiau River

Assessments will be carried out in October - November

 There will be regular river session held on the Oreti River between the 15 August and the assessment date.

For experienced paddlers looking at getting their grade 2 this can be done on the 15 August on the river run for a cost of $150.00 per person.

Course Cost $450.00 per person.
